James Barabas is a highly experienced roboticist currently working at The AI Institute since September 2023. Previously, James served as Technical Lead for Mobile Robot Perception at 6 River Systems from April 2018 to April 2023, where responsibilities included managing a team focused on obstacle sensing and avoidance technology for robots. James has a strong background in software engineering, evidenced by a role as Senior Software Engineer at The MathWorks from April 2014 to April 2018, concentrating on data visualization tools. As a co-founder of Delightfully and a graduate research assistant at the MIT Media Lab, James contributed to innovative projects such as real-time holographic television and depth perception studies. The academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Media Arts and Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Cornell University.
