Amaris Castillo

Amaris Castillo is an accomplished journalist and writer with a diverse background in media and storytelling. Currently serving as a NPR Public Editor Research/Writing Assistant at the Poynter Institute and contributing as a Stringer for The New York Times, Amaris also writes for Remezcla, focusing on cultural narratives. As the creator of Bodega Stories, Amaris showcases personal stories from the bodega community through a dedicated website featuring portraits and audio interviews. Previously, Amaris worked as a freelance writer for Parents Latina and held reporting positions at The Lowell Sun and Bradenton Herald, where coverage included local news, crime, and community challenges. Amaris holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Magazine Journalism from the University of South Florida.
