Principal Engineer - Process at Rio Tinto

Ray Van Wagoner is an experienced metallurgical engineer with a diverse background in process engineering and plant operations. Currently serving as Principal Engineer - Process at Rio Tinto since January 2014, Ray focuses on the design, construction, and operation of various pilot and demonstration plants for copper concentration and related technologies. Prior experience at Kennecott Utah Copper included roles as Principal Advisor where Ray led initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce costs, as well as contributing to the operational readiness and design of a Molybdenum Autoclave facility. Ray's career began with foundational roles at companies such as California Steel Industries, Schlosser Forge, and BHP Steel, after completing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Utah. Additionally, Ray gained entrepreneurial experience as the owner/operator of a fitness center in Italy.
