Robert Borthwick

Robert Borthwick is the Chief Risk Officer at Sempra, overseeing compliance, risk management, corporate security, and cybersecurity efforts since April 2019. Previously, Borthwick served as Deputy General Counsel, directing litigation, employment law, regulatory law, and compliance for the company, while also holding significant positions on the boards of both San Diego Gas & Electric and Luz del Sur. Borthwick has held a variety of roles at Sempra from 2003 to 2019, including General Manager of Sempra Renewables and Vice President & General Counsel for Sempra Infrastructure, where Borthwick led legal efforts for major renewable energy and liquified natural gas initiatives. Borthwick's earlier experience includes roles as Of Counsel at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting white collar crimes, and various positions at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and the United States Senate. Borthwick holds a JD from the University of Michigan Law School and a BA in History from Stanford University.
