Lester McKee is an accomplished Senior Environmental Scientist at the San Francisco Estuary Institute, a position held since February 2000. Prior to this role, Lester served as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Coastal Management in New South Wales from January 1995 to December 1999. Educationally, Lester achieved a PhD in Resource Science from Southern Cross University between 2004 and 2009 and obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Geology from the University of Canterbury from 1999 to 2003.

Our mission: provide scientific support and tools for planning, designing, and decision-making. We conduct independent research to assess and improve the health of the waters, wetlands, wildlife and landscapes of San Francisco Bay, California, and beyond. Our skilled scientists and technology experts provide data and tools that empower government, community, and industry to implement cost-effective solutions for complex environmental challenges. We have three primary programs – Clean Water, Resilient Landscapes, and Environmental Informatics – that together bridge the divide between decline and adaptation.
