Richard Stewart has extensive work experience in the mining industry. Richard started their career as a research geologist at CSIR Mining Technology and eventually became the Business Area Manager. Richard then co-founded Shango Solutions, a geological consultancy, where they served as a Director. Stewart later worked for Uranium One Inc., African Global Capital, and Gold One International in various executive roles, including Vice President of Geology and Exploration, Investment Consultant, and Senior Vice President of Business Development. Richard also served as the CEO of Goliath Gold Mining Ltd. In their most recent position at Sibanye-Stillwater, Stewart has held roles such as Senior Vice President of Technical Services and Projects, Executive Vice President of Business Development, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Regional Officer (Africa). Richard has been responsible for overseeing operations, managing capital projects, executing growth strategies, and establishing stakeholder relations. Stewart has played a significant role in the expansion and development of Sibanye-Stillwater into a global precious metals company.

Richard Stewart earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of the Witwatersrand from 1995 to 1998. Richard then completed a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Geology at the same institution in 1999. Richard continued their education at the University of the Witwatersrand and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Geology from 2000 to 2004. In 2010, Richard attended the University of Warwick - Warwick Business School and graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business in 2014.
