Beginning a career at Migrationsverket in 1988, Kiani progressively advanced through roles including SIV-tjänsteman, Utredare, handläggare, and Förläggningchef, ultimately serving as Head of Unit and Head of Division. Prior experience includes serving as Head of Unit at Kriminalvården and working as a Socionom at Örebro kommun. Kiani holds a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from Örebro University, completed between 1993 and 1996, and also studied at Umeå University from 1986 to 1988.
