Norman Thomas CADC, CAS NCAC possesses extensive experience in veteran services and substance abuse counseling. As Veterans Services Coordinator at Swords to Plowshares since May 2008, Norman has overseen health and social services, assisting veterans with housing, employment, and legal needs. Prior roles include Senior Housing Outreach Specialist and Program Manager for Supportive Services for Veterans and Families (SSVF), focusing on housing opportunities and eviction prevention. Norman is also the Principal Consultant at Thomas Consulting, instructing Substance Use Disorder Counselors, and serves as an instructor at CAARR Institute. For over 45 years, Swords to Plowshares has provided direct services for low-income, homeless, and at-risk San Francisco Bay Area veterans regardless of era of service or discharge status. They are one of the few organizations in the country that provide free legal consultation and attorney representation to veterans seeking assistance with the Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and military discharge upgrade cases.
