Javier Romero is an accomplished professional in the nuclear engineering field with extensive experience in fuel performance and materials development. Currently serving as the Manager of Fuel Performance and Development at TerraPower since April 2021, Javier leads the design and performance modeling of nuclear fuel for the Natrium reactor. Previous roles include managing materials testing and qualification efforts and serving as Principal Engineer, focusing on materials development for sodium-cooled reactors. Prior to TerraPower, Javier held various managerial and engineering positions at Westinghouse Electric Company, where responsibilities included extending market share for nuclear fuel hardware and enhancing accident tolerance of nuclear fuel. Earlier in their career, Javier worked as an Inspection Engineer at Oxy, specializing in mechanical integrity and failure analysis. Javier holds a PhD and an MS in Materials Science from The University of Manchester, an MBA from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
