Carlos Pelaez, MD, MHA, FACS, currently serves as Vice Chair of the Committee on Trauma for the American College of Surgeons Iowa Chapter and as Chair of the Department of Surgery at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines. Since 2018, Carlos Pelaez has held the position of Trauma Medical Director at UnityPoint Health. In addition, Carlos Pelaez has been a board member at Des Moines Christian School since June 2021 and has practiced general surgery, trauma, and surgical critical care at The Iowa Clinic since February 2015. An adjunct clinical associate professor at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine since 2011, Carlos Pelaez previously completed a general surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center and a fellowship at Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center. Carlos Pelaez obtained a Master of Health Administration from The University of Iowa Executive MHA Program.
