Katie Little is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in teaching students with hearing disabilities. Currently serving as a Second Grade Teacher at The River School since August 2020, Katie has previously held positions as a Middle School DHH Teacher at the San Diego Unified School District and NEGA RESA from August 2016 to August 2020 and July 2012 to July 2016, respectively. Additionally, Katie contributed as an ASL Teaching Assistant and Graduate Research Assistant at Georgia State University from July 2011 to August 2012. Academically, Katie holds a Master of Arts in Deaf Education from Valdosta State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from The University of Georgia, and an Education Specialist degree in Special Education from the University of West Georgia.

The River School

A premier educational program for children 18 months through Grade 3 in Northwest Washington, DC. The River School’s innovative educational model pairs a master’s level educator and a speech language pathologist in each classroom, and focuses on language, literacy and social development. Classroom practice emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning, using thematic curriculum to seamlessly integrate literacy, math, science, drama, music, art, physical education and yoga. The River School’s unique inclusion program is internationally acclaimed. Most students (85% or more) are children with normal hearing; each classroom includes a few children with hearing loss who use cochlear implants or hearing aids. The teaching team supports all of the children in the classroom, with every student greatly benefiting from the rich educational experience.
