Haydn Thomas is an experienced policy leader at The Scottish Government, currently serving as Head of Producer Responsibility since December 2019, overseeing initiatives related to Extended Producer Responsibility, the Deposit Return Scheme, and sustainable product stewardship. Prior to this role, Haydn held various positions including Head of Deposit Return Scheme Policy and Programme Manager within the Environment and Forestry Directorate, managing key programs such as the Scottish Government's EU Exit Environment Programme and responses to the Covid-19 crisis within the waste and resources sector. Haydn also led the Nature theme for the COP26 Climate Conference. Previous experience includes roles in project analysis at Forest Research and the Cabinet Office, as well as positions in food science strategy and management consulting. Haydn holds a PhD in Plant Ecology and an MSc in Environmental Sustainability from The University of Edinburgh, along with a BA from the University of Oxford.
