Phil Cleaves

Phil Cleaves is an accomplished educator and theatre specialist with extensive experience in drama and theatre arts. Currently serving as a Visiting Tutor at the University of Buckingham and a Subject Knowledge Specialist for Drama and Theatre PGTAs since August 2022, Phil has also founded Essential Drama in September 2015, a platform dedicated to drama education. With a PhD in Drama from the University of Surrey in progress, previous roles include Copy Editor and Education Consultant for Performing International Plays, Teacher Training at Bedales School, and Maternity Cover Teacher of Drama at Brentwood School. Phil's commitment to interdisciplinary education is further reflected in roles as a freelance drama consultant and writer of educational materials, alongside contributions to the governance of Phoenix Primary School as Chair of Governors. Phil's academic background includes a Master's from RADA and Birkbeck, and a Master's in Education Studies from the University of Cambridge, showcasing a robust educational foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of drama and education.
