Lilian Weng

Lilian Weng is a seasoned professional in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning, currently serving as Co-Founder at Thinking Machines Lab since January 2025. Prior experience includes holding key positions at OpenAI from February 2018 to November 2024, including VP of Research, Safety, where leadership was provided to a team focused on AI safety, and Head of Applied AI Research, overseeing initiatives to enhance product safety and effectiveness. Prior roles include Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Affirm, Inc., and various positions at Dropbox, including Software Engineer and Data Scientist. Early career experiences include internships at Facebook, focusing on data science and software engineering. Lilian holds a Ph.D. in Complex Systems and Networks from Indiana University Bloomington and dual bachelor's degrees in Information Systems and Computer Science from Peking University and The University of Hong Kong.
