Kristen Clarke serves as the Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice since May 2021. Prior to this role, Kristen was the President and Executive Director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law from January 2016 to May 2021, focusing on combating discrimination against racial and ethnic minorities. Kristen also held the position of Chief of the Civil Rights Bureau under New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman from August 2011 to November 2015, advocating for equal justice for all New Yorkers. Earlier in Kristen's career, Kristen co-directed the Political Participation Group at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. from April 2006 to August 2011 and worked as a Trial Attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice from September 2000 to April 2006. Kristen Clarke earned a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University.
