Taras Matla

Taras Matla is an accomplished arts administrator with extensive experience in museum and gallery management, currently serving as the Director at the University of Maryland since November 2012. Notably, Taras has raised over $2.5 million in donations and developed new endowment revenue streams to support museum operations. Previous roles include Associate Director, where interim executive leadership was provided during a vacancy, and Assistant Director, overseeing daily operations and expanding academic engagement through the Visiting Artist Lecture & Project fellowship. Career beginnings featured roles at major institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Trust, enhancing organizational outreach and curatorial efforts. Taras holds a Master of Arts in Aesthetics and Politics from California Institute of the Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from California State University, Long Beach, along with independent study experience at National Taiwan Normal University.
