David MacKinnon

Director, Writing Program & Center at University of North Florida

David MacKinnon has extensive experience in higher education, currently serving as an Associate Instructor in the Department of English and the Director of the Writing Center at the University of North Florida since January 2009. MacKinnon's roles have included developing first-year composition courses, innovating distance-learning curricula, and coordinating outreach efforts for the Writing Program. Additional responsibilities have included teaching various writing courses and managing protocols for Writing Center staff. MacKinnon has also served as a Visiting Instructor, Office Manager, and Adjunct Instructor, focusing on writing instruction across disciplines. Since August 2020, MacKinnon has been a reviewer for the AAC&U VALUE Scoring Collaborative, assessing postsecondary students' writing. MacKinnon holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration, a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and French Language, all from the University of North Florida.
