Omid Tavakoli has a diverse work experience. Omid is currently serving as a Board Member of the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy since February 2022. Prior to that, they held multiple roles at the University of Tehran, including Director of Biotechnology Pharmacy and the environment Group, Research Vice Deputy, and Assistant Professor. Omid also has experience as the Proprietor of Green Technology Magazine.
Omid Tavakoli holds a Postdoctorate degree in Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources from Osaka Prefecture University, which they obtained from 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Energy and Environment from the same university from 2000 to 2004. Omid also has a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, which they completed from 1996 to 1998, and a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the same university, which they obtained from 1992 to 1996. Omid completed their high school education at Daneshmand High School from 1988 to 1992, focusing on Mathematics and Physics.

University of Tehran, the icon of higher education in Iran, was established in its traditional form seven centuries ago. It was initially founded as a Houza (traditional religious school). In the modern era, the University evolved from its religious structure to a more modern and academic structure of higher education. Dar-ol-Fonoon College was the first engineering school in its modern form which was established about a century ago. University of Tehran in its current form was inaugurated in the winter of 1934.
