The Virgin Islands Department of Education is the governing body over the territory's public schools, which seeks to promote teacher/leader effectiveness, a positive school culture, and increased student achievement across two unique school districts: the St. Croix District and the St. Thomas - St. John District. The Virgin Islands Department of Education currently enrolls over 13,000 students and employs over 2,000 faculty, staff, administrators, district and state officials. The St. Croix District is home to 2 high schools, 3 junior high schools, 8 elementary schools, 1 adult education center, and 1 Career and Technical Education (CTE) center. The St. Thomas - St. John District is home to 2 high schools, 2 junior high schools, 1 middle school, 10 elementary schools, and 1 Career and Technical Education institute.
