Theanne Schiros

Theanne Schiros is a National Geographic Explorer at the National Geographic Society since June 2023, and a Co-Founder of Werewool, a company that develops biodegradable textile fibers using engineered proteins. Since August 2014, Theanne has served as an Associate Professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, while also holding positions as a Research Scientist at Columbia University since September 2008. Theanne has extensive experience in advanced materials characterization, focusing on photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical devices, and has been involved in various interdisciplinary research programs at Columbia related to materials efficiency. Prior roles include Co-Founder and former Scientific Director at AlgiKnit, a graduate research assistant at Stanford University and other institutions, and several fellowships and research positions. Theanne holds a PhD and a Licentiate degree in Chemical Physics from Stockholm University, as well as an MA in Physics from Hunter College and a BA in American Studies/Art History from Fordham University.
