Stephanie Lai serves as a Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice since January 2020, providing litigation counsel for various California State Agencies including the California Coastal Commission and the State Lands Commission. In addition, Stephanie leads a team of 72 as Project Manager for the BASIS Independent Schools Parent Committee, organizing a STEM festival for gifted and talented students. Previous experience includes contributing to California Environmental Law and Land Use at LexisNexis, serving as Senior Attorney at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control where compliance strategies and legal expertise in land use covenants were developed, and working as an Associate in multiple law firms focusing on various legal cases. Stephanie began her legal career with internships at Hiraki and Associates and the California Department of Water Resources, where research and drafting for patent prosecution and legal projects were performed. Educational qualifications include a Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific - McGeorge School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Organismic Biology from UCLA.
