Jim Christie has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Jim began their career as a Welder at Anderson Strathclyde in 1986, where they served a four-year apprenticeship and worked as a time-served tradesman for seven years. In 1997, they moved to Brown Brothers as a Welder before joining Weir Pumps in 1998. At Weir Pumps, they held various roles, including Welder, Supplies Controller, Spares Tendering Engineer, and Buyer for Raw Materials. In 2008, Jim joined Sulzer Pumps as part of the Advance Procurement team. Jim then moved to CLYDEUNION Pumps in 2011, where they initially served as a Buyer in Advance Procurement and later advanced to the role of Sourcing Manager - Bought in Finished and Castings. In 2013, they joined HYSPEC ENGINEERING briefly before returning to CLYDEUNION Pumps as a Senior Buyer. From 2015 to 2022, they worked at Babcock International Group as a Procurement Development and Performance Lead. Currently, Jim is the Supply Chain Development Lead at Celeros Flow Technology, starting in 2022. Throughout their career, Jim has gained extensive experience in procurement, supply chain management, negotiation, and vendor performance management.

Jim Christie attended Hamilton Grammar School from 1982 to 1986. Jim then studied Engineering at Motherwell College from 1986 to 1991, earning a degree in City and Guilds. From 2003 to 2005, they pursued Business Informations Systems at Bell College of Technology, obtaining an HNC degree. Between 2008 and 2010, Jim studied Supply Chain Management and Consultancy, specializing in Supply Chain Management.
