Matthew Gela has a diverse work experience. Matthew started working as a Web Design Apprentice at Mapalim Ltd in 2011, where they created designs and developed the user interface for the company website.
In 2014, they worked as a Content Author at Blue Duck Education Ltd, where they created online lessons and collaborated with content auditors to improve their quality. Matthew also worked as a Private Tutor at Tutorfair during this time.
In 2015, Matthew worked as an Economic Research Intern at GLI Finance, where they produced reports, drafted opinion pieces, and analyzed industry reports and survey data. Matthew gained valuable insights into the FinTech space through attending industry conferences.
In 2016, Matthew worked as a Digital Intern at Lloyds Banking Group.
From 2017 to 2021, they worked at PwC UK, initially as a Data & Analytics Associate in the FS Advanced Risk & Compliance Analytics team. Matthew went on secondment as a Data Analytics Specialist to an internal audit department of a global investment bank, where they led data analytics work and trialed machine learning and graph analysis for audits. Matthew also worked on a Financial Crime proof of concept with a major UK bank, using machine learning techniques to improve money laundering detection.
At Datatonic, starting in October 2021, Matthew holds the position of Senior Data Scientist.
Matthew Gela completed their A Levels in Further Maths, Maths, Chemistry, and Economics at Chelsea Academy from 2011 to 2013. Matthew then pursued their undergraduate studies at Imperial College London from 2013 to 2017, earning an MSci in Mathematics. In 2020, Matthew enrolled at Udacity and obtained a Machine Learning Engineer Nanodegree in Computer Science in 2021. Alongside their formal education, Matthew also obtained additional certifications. In 2018, they completed a Machine Learning course on Coursera. In 2022, Matthew obtained certifications in SARS-CoV-2 Protein Modeling and Drug Docking from Coursera, dbt Fundamentals from dbt Labs, and Professional Machine Learning Engineer from Google.
