🎯 What We Do

Encodia is a rapidly growing platform company that is developing a new generation of protein analysis tools based on single-molecule protein sequencing. Our goal is to make protein sequencing easy and ubiquitous by using a novel reverse-translation technology that turns peptide sequences into DNA. The DNA can be read by a DNA sequencer, providing a path to breakthrough proteomics research at a scale that is not practical or cost-effective using current technologies.

💼 Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Instrument Software Engineer with a background in developing software for instruments or related systems to lead the software development for a new instrument system. This person will be responsible for the systems controlling hardware components (including pumps, valves, motion, temperature control and sensors), and will also contribute to the design and development of a touch-based graphical interface.

🤝 Reports To

This position reports directly to the Director of Bioinformatics, Aaron Wise. Aaron is an experienced scientist who received his Ph.D. in Computational Biology from Carnegie Mellon. Prior to joining the team at Encodia, Aaron was following his passion for computational biology as Co-Founder of his own company, Accelerate Informatics, and expanding his horizons with Illumina.

💥 What We Need Your Help With

  • Implementing and testing communication interface to instrument hardware components
  • Designing and implementing scheduler for automatic control of instrument system
  • Designing and implementing touch-based GUI for instrument system
  • Building a software team to support further development, testing and maintenance of instrument software
  • Working with the integration and assay team to improve and optimize instrument operation
  • Working with external consultants for hardware and software design and integration
  • Strong understanding of SDLC processes, specifically agile scrum methodology and tools such as Jira and Confluence

🔍 What We Look For

  • BS or higher in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of experience developing software for instruments or related systems
  • Expertise in Python3 with experience in using Java or C++ and GUI packages such as Qt5/6 and/or Tk
  • Expertise in developing applications for a Linux operating system and the Linux command line (shell scripting; especially bash)
  • Experience in gathering requirements, architecting and developing commercial software applications
  • Version controls systems (git) and automated build, verification and test systems
  • Curious, detail oriented, and analytical, with a proven ability to learn quickly
  • Customer-focused, team-oriented, and motivated, taking ownership of assigned tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional environment with input and feedback from other team members including Scientists and Engineers
