Matthew Kroenig currently serves as Vice President and Senior Director at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council and holds the position of columnist for Foreign Policy. Additionally, Matthew Kroenig is a professor and associate professor of Government at Georgetown University. Previous roles include serving as a commissioner on the Commission on the Strategic Posture of the United States and as a Senior Policy Adviser for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans, and Capability, where significant contributions to deterrence strategies concerning China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran were made. Matthew Kroenig has also held fellowships at the Council on Foreign Relations and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and has experience in Middle East defense policy and counterterrorism strategy. Educational qualifications include a PhD and Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
