Futuro Health was established by Kaiser Permanente and SEIU-UHW to address the nation's healthcare worker shortage, starting with California, by investing in allied health education and skills training and retraining. California’s projected demand is approximately 500,000 new healthcare workers by 2024. Allied healthcare services, critical to delivering high-quality healthcare, are provided by a wide range of clinical, administrative and support professionals including licensed vocational nurses, medical coders, health information technicians, pharmacy technicians and laboratory workers. Futuro Health confronts the healthcare workforce shortage by creating better opportunities for workers. We raise awareness of in-demand healthcare career opportunities and provide an affordable, quality education solution that invests in skills training and retraining for potential and current allied healthcare workers. Our new education-to-work model supports candidates through career exploration and coaching, education financing, and determining the best pathway toward credential or license. Once students complete programs and receive their credentials, we help them transition into high-demand allied healthcare jobs while providing businesses with a high-quality workforce. The initiative aims to graduate 10,000 new licensed, credentialed allied healthcare workers in California over the next four years. While Futuro Health will begin its work within California, future plans include scaling the model to other states.
