Mario Barenas is a dedicated veterinarian with a comprehensive background in animal care and research. Currently serving as a Specialty Intern at Angell Animal Medical Center since July 2023, Mario previously worked as a Veterinarian Intern at The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center from June 2022 to July 2023. Mario's experience includes roles as a Surgery Assistant at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where skills in surgical preparation and sterile techniques were developed. Prior internships at the Veterinary Entrepreneurship Academy and University of Puerto Rico Medical Campus enhanced knowledge in veterinary entrepreneurship and primate healthcare, respectively. Mario also contributed significantly to research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where involvement ranged from chronic wasting disease studies to immunobehavioral research. Mario holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University and a Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
