David Summerhayes has a diverse and extensive work experience in the legal field. David is currently the Director of Legal Services at Northern Gas and Power (NGP Ltd) since October 2020. Prior to that, they worked as a Partner at Sintons LLP from October 2019 to October 2020, where they specialized in commercial litigation and provided strategic advice and dispute solutions for national and multinational businesses.
Before joining Sintons LLP, David worked as a Senior Associate at DWF from January 2012 to September 2019. In this role, they led the firm's commercial litigation team in Newcastle and provided urgent advice to national and multinational businesses. David advised on complex and high-value claims, including pensions disputes, probate and trusts litigation, and fraud actions.
David also worked as an Associate at Crutes Law Firm from March 2011 to January 2012, where they headed the Commercial Dispute Resolution Team. In this role, they dealt with various commercial and civil litigation cases, including breach of contract, warranty claims, partnership disputes, and property litigation.
David started their legal career at Watson Burton LLP in November 2000, where they held various roles from Paralegal to Associate. David qualified as a solicitor in the Commercial Litigation Department in April 2005 and worked on a wide range of legal matters, representing local, national, and international businesses.
Throughout their career, David has gained expertise in areas such as defamation and privacy, contracts, companies, partnerships, negligence, fraud, contested probate, trusts, and privacy and defamation law concerning reputation and social media. David has worked with clients in sectors including energy, retail, healthcare, food, hospitality, and education.
David Summerhayes earned their LLB Hons degree in Law from Newcastle University. David attended the university from 1997 to 2000.
