Dr. José Ignacio Latorre has extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Dr. José Ignacio is currently serving as an Académico Extranjero at the Academia de las Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de España since February 2023. Dr. José Ignacio is also a Distinguished Professor at ST Engineering since January 2023.
Prior to their current roles, Dr. Latorre was the Director at the Centre for Quantum Technologies from July 2020. Dr. José Ignacio was also an Executive Producer and speaker, responsible for outreach, at various organizations since January 1985.
Lastly, Dr. Latorre was a Partner and Scientific Director at Entanglement Partners sl until February 2020. Throughout their career, they have contributed to various documentaries, projects, and research in the field of quantum technologies.
Dr. José Ignacio Latorre obtained their Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Universitat de Barcelona, completing their studies from 1982 to 1985. Following this, they pursued postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1986 to 1988, specializing in Theoretical Physics. Dr. José Ignacio then continued their postdoc at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen in the year 1988 to 1989, furthering their knowledge in the field. Prior to their higher education, Dr. Latorre attended Lycée Français Barcelona from 1963 to 1977, although the specific degree and field of study during this period is not specified.

Qilimanjaro’s integrated hardware & software team focuses on coherent quantum annealing high-quality qubit architectures to deliver scalable app-specific fully quantum processors and algorithmic services in a short timeframe.Qilimanjaro focuses on time-to-market by designing coherent quantum annealers, which do not require quantum errorcorrection and can be therefore faster-to-market. Annealers are known to optimally address certain problem categories, specifically optimization problems and Quantum Machine Learning.These categories are central to many real-world use cases across industries (logistics, traffic management, financial risk assessments, etc.), and will garner a clear demand.Specifically, Qilimanjaro’s architecture is designed on the basis of coherent qubits, whereby longer coherent times allow complex calculations to be performed in the real quantum regime, leveraging true quantum phenomena and therefore its computing capabilities.Existing quantum annealing industry players are focusing on incoherent qubits and, so far, do not show indications of exceeding conventional computing capabilities.
