Chanura Wijeratne has extensive work experience in various roles within the engineering industry.
From 2004 to 2005, Wijeratne worked as an Engineering Trainee at OMEGA Electrical Installation & Automation.
In 2005, Wijeratne joined Shin Nippon Air Technologies as a Lead Electrical Engineer, overseeing the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems for the Triton Hotel refurbishment project. Wijeratne also managed a multidisciplinary project construction team and handled procurement and problem solving.
From 2007 to 2008, Wijeratne worked as a Production Engineer at Emerson Process Management - European DCS Manufacturing Facility. Responsibilities included production of DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) cabinets, project planning, change management, and process optimization. Wijeratne also received training in the Netherlands as part of a technology transfer program.
From 2008 to 2012, Wijeratne served as a Senior Electrical Engineer at Stopford Projects Limited. Duties included detail design and development of electrical, control, and instrument systems for major petroleum terminals in the UK, as well as delivering Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for biomass and waste energy projects.
Since 2012, Wijeratne has been working at RES as an Energy Network Lead. Prior to this role, Wijeratne held the position of Senior Electrical Grid Engineer. Responsibilities included delivering grid connection and electrical design packages for onshore wind projects, ensuring grid code compliance, and managing grid contracts. Wijeratne also played a key role in improving project delivery processes and reducing costs.

Chanura Wijeratne completed their education in a chronological order. Chanura first attended Seevali Central College from 1995 to 1997, where they obtained a GCSE in Mathematics. Later on, they enrolled at the University of Moratuwa from 1998 to 2003, where they pursued a BSc in Electrical Engineering. Finally, from 2010 to 2015, they attended The University of Manchester, earning an MSc in Electrical Power System Engineering.
