Byron Purse is a Professor at San Diego State University since August 2013, with research interests focused on unnatural nucleotides as fluorescent molecular probes and the chemical biology of RNA and DNA. Byron Purse has co-founded Alida Biosciences in October 2020 and previously served as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Denver from September 2008 to July 2013. Prior experience includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stockholm University, where development of hybrid catalysts for oxygen-activation and electron transfer in aerobic oxidations took place, and as a Graduate Student at The Scripps Research Institute, culminating in a PhD in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Julius Rebek. Education includes a BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Regina.
