Christopher Barngrover started their work experience in 2004 as a Software Engineer at Caterpillar Inc. Christopher worked on developing and managing multiple CF Applications using Cold Fusion with Oracle databases. In 2005, they joined SPAWAR as a Scientist, where they led and developed projects for Radar-based localization and developed and integrated a remote weapon system. Christopher also had project management responsibilities for a detection and tracking project. In 2015, Barngrover became a Lecturer at the University of California San Diego, a role they held until 2023. Currently, they are working at Shield AI, where they started as a Director of Engineering in 2017 and is currently serving as the Vice President of Engineering. At Shield AI, they are involved in program management for a multi-phase program that focuses on using AI to protect service members and civilians.
Christopher Barngrover earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science from Purdue University in 2005, along with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics from the same institution. Christopher then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science Engineering at UC San Diego from 2008 to 2010. Finally, they completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science Engineering from UC San Diego between 2010 and 2014.

Shield AI builds self-driving technology that enables swarms of unmanned systems to operate on the edge without GPS, communications, or remote pilots. Further, by applying reinforcement learning to scalable simulations, Shield AI trains unmanned systems to learn new tactics and behaviors to autonomously accomplish new missions ranging from clearance operations with SUAS to breaching integrated air defense systems with Group 2-5 UAS.
