Michael Itakura has worked in a variety of roles since 1989. Michael began their career as a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in 1989. In 2005, they were appointed Deputy Information Warfare Commander at Commander Expeditionary Strike Group Three. In 2007, they became Training Cryptologic Resource Coordinator at Commander, Strike Forces Training Pacific, and in 2008 they were Director of Visitor Operations Bureau at Headquarters, Multi-National Forces Iraq. In 2010, they were Assistant Program Manager at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, and in 2013 they became Senior Systems Engineer at Solute Consulting, providing oversight of personnel, finances, contracts, and technical engineering of command and control, cyber security, tactical networks, and ISR programs.

Michael Itakura attended Iolani School from 1983 to 1989. Michael then went on to the United States Naval Academy from 1989 to 1993, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics. Michael also obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. Additionally, they earned a DAWIA Level Three in Program Management from the Defense Acquisition University.
