What Is Start Proud

Start Proud aims to connect LGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the development of LGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of those in the community.

We facilitate the professional development of LGBTQ+ students as they transition from school to career in order to build a national network within the community. Our vision is to empower members of the LGBTQ+ community to be Canada’s leaders of tomorrow, where all institutions embrace inclusiveness within the workplace and diversity within the workforce.

About the Role:

Reporting to the VP Operations, you will be instrumental in ensuring our website's seamless operation and triumph. Your vital contribution to managing and optimizing our website performance and providing pivotal support in project coordination across the organization will be highly valued. This multifaceted role forms the backbone of StartProud's digital landscape and is key to optimizing our operational processes, fuelling our continued growth, and driving our success story forward.

In this role you will:

• Manage and Optimize Website: Maintain, update, and improve the company's website to ensure smooth functionality and optimal user experience. This will also include undertaking Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies to boost website visibility and traffic.
• Develop and Design Web Content: Be actively involved in the creation, modification, and improvement of the company's web pages, including the implementation of new design features. You will ensure that the website remains visually compelling and consistent with the company's brand identity.
• Monitor and Analyze Web Performance: Utilize analytical tools, like Google Analytics, to routinely monitor website traffic, user behaviour, and SEO effectiveness. You'll make informed decisions about website modifications and performance enhancements based on your analysis.
• Ensure Security and Compliance: Be responsible for ensuring the security of the website by implementing necessary security measures, regular system updates, and preventative strategies against potential cyber threats. Additionally, you will ensure the website remains compliant with all relevant laws and regulations, such as data privacy policies and web accessibility guidelines.

Required Skills and Experience:

Experience:

• Proven Experience: Demonstrable experience in managing, maintaining, and optimizing websites, preferably within your industry.
• Project Management Experience: Experience in managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines is typically required. SEO Experience: Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization practices and the ability to implement them to increase website visibility and traffic.
• Experience with Analytics: Experience using website analytics tools like Google Analytics to track, report, and interpret website traffic and engagement metrics.

Skills:

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in web-related coding languages (such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and knowledge of web design principles. Familiarity with the website management tool and content management system WordPress is crucial.
• Design Skills: Ability to design appealing and effective web pages, with a good understanding of design principles and user experience (UX).
• Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to identify and fix issues related to website performance, usability, and design.
• Security Knowledge: Awareness of web security principles and strategies to prevent and respond to cyber threats.

Commitment

• ~5-15 hours per month
• Mandatory attendance at team team meetings
