John Irven

John Irven is a distinguished academic and industry leader with extensive experience in the fields of chemistry and technology. Currently serving as a Visiting Professor at Queen Mary, University of London since 1998, John Irven promotes the integration of academic chemistry with real-world applications. As Chairman of the Research Board at TWI since 2008, John Irven directs research programs for industrial members and contributes to the governance of the institution. Previously, John Irven held leadership roles at Air Products, where innovative contributions to the Packaged Gases business resulted in over 25 new products. John Irven also has substantial experience in optical fibre technology from tenure as Chief Research Engineer at ITT-STC, contributing to recognized advancements in the field. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Optical Fibre Fabrication from the University of Greenwich and a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
