Matthew Klopfenstein currently holds the position of Director of Professional Development at the University of South Carolina since July 2021, where previous roles included Assistant Director of National Fellowships and National Fellowships Coordinator. Between 2017 and 2020, Matthew served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, instructing courses on popular culture and the Holocaust, while also developing online course content. Additionally, as a Fulbright Fellow from September 2017 to June 2018, Matthew conducted archival research at the Higher School of Economics on media in the late Russian Empire and early Soviet Union. Matthew's earlier experience includes working as an Editorial Assistant for Slavic Review, teaching history at the International Academy of Saint Petersburg, and serving as a Student Librarian and Archivist at Bethel College. Matthew earned a PhD and MA in History from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a BA in History and Philosophy from Bethel University.
