Robert Tyler

Robert Tyler is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in intellectual property and information technology law. Currently serving as Deputy University Counsel and previously as Associate University Counsel at the University of Virginia since August 2015, Robert Tyler handles a broad range of legal and policy matters, including data privacy, commercial transactions, and governance. Prior to this role, Robert served as Director at Spotts Fain PC, focusing on intellectual property counseling and negotiating technology agreements, and was a Partner at McGuireWoods LLP, where expertise in intellectual property litigation was developed. Robert Tyler began his legal career as a Judicial Clerk for The Honorable James R. Spencer at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Robert Tyler obtained a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in History from the University of Virginia.
