John Benson

John Benson is a seasoned professional in the packaging industry with experience spanning over three decades. Currently serving as a Senior Principal Scientist in R&D at Smurfit Westrock and WestRock Company since November 2018, John is recognized as a subject matter expert in technical innovation projects related to corrugated packaging, leading efforts from concept to commercialization. Previously, John held the role of Director of Marketing at KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation, where responsibility included strategic marketing for the paper mill division's product lines and enhancing sustainability initiatives. John's earlier positions include Marketing Director and Technical Manager at MeadWestvaco, with a focus on marketing and innovation strategies for specialty paper products. John holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics from Xavier University.
