JOE PROTO has 37 years of experience in the billing and payments industry as a senior executive and successful entrepreneur. He has launched and sold three companies— the first to a bank that was acquired by Wells Fargo in 1992, the second to First Data in 2000, and the third, Transactis, to Mastercard in 2019. In 2004, Proto cofounded Windham Ventures, a preeminent life sciences investment firm. He is also active in the medtech industry. Proto and his wife, Smita, were married in her home country of Kenya, a place that helped spur their mutual love of wildlife. They live in Manhattan and are avid travelers. He received his MA in education from Maharishi University of Management in 1980. He is a lifelong meditator.
