Lead, Advisory Strategy

Job description

Kevala is looking for a Lead to join our growing Advisory Strategy team within our Professional & Advisory Services Department. This is an individual who will support in leading complex customer advisory engagements and other professional service contracts sold alongside our SaaS data platform to governmental clients. The ideal candidate should be a passionate advocate for decarbonizing the grid and bring a depth of team management experience in SaaS-based solutions enablement. Key activities will include

  • Create and nurture buy-in for Kevala’s decarbonization vision and its position at the vanguard of thought leadership in the energy ecosystem both internally and with key external partners.
  • Support business development and sales by providing consultative and advisory services to move customers through the sales funnel.
  • Add value to the pre and post-sales customer experience through implementation and onboarding, instituting change management, and product customization.
  • Continue to build processes to improve engagement delivery.
  • Productizing more common service offerings and developing the business case for new service offerings.
  • Demonstrate expertise and/or experience in working with diverse regulatory stakeholders across at least two key Distributed Energy Resource (DER) solutions (for example, PV, PV+Storage, EVs, EE, BE, Microgrids or DR)
  • Work with regulatory and other governmental clients at the outset of engagements to clearly define engagement objectives, timeline, critical path, and deliverable(s).
  • Lead policy discussions with regulators, energy and/or community stakeholders, and/or utility policymakers relating to competitive landscape and the broad direction of energy markets, the energy transition and utility analytics; OR be a recognized technical expert in at least two utility disciplines such as power flow engineering, rate design and cost of service, or utility business models and market design.
  • Design, develop and/or oversee written reports and other presentation materials for utility, regulatory and commercial client contacts and leadership in support of engagement deliverables.
  • Assist in the delivery of reports and presentations of engagement deliverables to client contacts and leadership.
  • Provide the voice of the customer in the design and development of SaaS offerings to enhance the customer’s experience with the product offerings.
  • Mentor junior team members.

What you need to succeed

  • 7+ years of related experience
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, energy policy or equivalent experience
  • Deep subject matter expertise in the wholesale and retail electricity markets, distributed energy resource technology, regulation, cost of service, rate design, or grid integration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility analytics including but not limited to rate design, cost recovery, cost of service and load forecasting, or power flow engineering.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to build long-term collaborative relationships with clients and co-create solutions to address the client’s decarbonization goals.
  • Effective and efficient communication skills

What will make you stand out

  • Masters degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, energy policy or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years providing consulting services and delivering software solutions to clients in the utility and regulatory markets.
  • 3+ years of direct experience within utilities, utility regulators or other key client sectors.

Location

We are headquartered in San Francisco, but we embrace the virtual office and are continuing to grow our team across the United States.

Salary Range

$120,000-$150,000 (depending on location and experience)
