Position Details

Position Title: Account Manager

Employment Status: Full-Time; Exempt

Salary Range: $45,000 - $52,000

Reports To: Regional Director – Western Event Operations

Location: Harrisonburg (Client Portfolio includes James Madison University / Athletics)

Position Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for all aspects of RMC Events operation within their assigned client portfolio. For the Harrisonburg Market, this position will work closely with James Madison University, James Madison University Athletics, and the Atlantic Union Bank Center, along with a myriad of clients in the surrounding area. This includes developing long-term, positive relationships with their assigned clients as well as actively seeking to develop new business opportunities within those client relationships.

The Account Manager is expected to display excellence in both client service and internal personnel management. The applicant must always utilize solid judgment and decision-making skills, including during emergency situations. Flexibility regarding the work schedule is required as the “typical” work calendar does not apply to this position. Work outside of the normal weekday hours is regularly required of the Account Manager as events are typically held on weeknights and weekends. Travel to/from other inter and intra-regional events (within the Commonwealth of Virginia) will be required at times.

Essential Position Functions and Key Duties

  • Client Relations:
    • Serve as the lead point of contact for assigned client portfolio, ensuring their needs and expectations are met or exceeded.
    • Cultivate positive, long-term relationships through internal/external meetings and essential business-related functions.
  • Event Planning and Execution:
    • Meticulously plan all aspects of event logistics including staffing, mapping, deployment, timelines, briefing documents, and operational/equipment needs.
    • Manage event day operations as the lead representative on-site, ensuring service delivery to clients, guests, and part-time staff.
  • Communication:
    • Provide clear and thorough communication to part-time staff regarding event details, including times, directions, travel details, attire, and expectations.
    • Collaborate effectively with clients, board members, donors, VIPs, guests, peers, and staff in various settings.
  • Support Functions:
    • Assist other departments as needed, including HR & Recruiting and Operations & Logistics, to ensure seamless event execution and organizational support.
    • Participate in professional development & organizational advancement activities as requested.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:

    • Preferred combination of education/industry experience with a focus on event operations.
    • Proven ability to successfully manage personnel, preferably within the large event industry.
  • Availability and Adaptability:

    • Ability to work irregular hours specific to events, including nights/weekends/holidays.
    • Effective navigation throughout facilities and adaptation to the unique demands of large-scale events.
  • Skills:

    • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a deep understanding of successfully managing personnel and clients is preferred.
    • Experience in handling staffing and service challenges unique to events.
  • Legal Requirements:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the U.S.
    • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors and often irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays is required. This includes all-weather environments.
    • Strong computer skills are required.
    • Must submit to an extensive background check, including criminal history (VA State Police & FBI fingerprints), personal and professional references, and employment and education verifications.
    • Must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Location:

    • Residence within the market or willingness to relocate to the market is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of standing for long periods and lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds, as needed.
  • Repetitive movements are required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb & descend stairs, bend, squat, push, and pull frequently.
  • Work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions as well as outdoors in weather conditions, including varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
